The vice president of the Industrialized Construction Council (CCI), talks to AICE about the importance of advancing early integration.
In January 2023, the Association of Structural Civil Engineers (AICE) signed a collaboration agreement with the Industrialized Construction Council (ICC). Ian Watt, Marianne Küpfer and Francisca Pedrasa were present representing AICE.
On the CCI side, its president Tatiana Martínez and vice-president Milton Vicentelo led the activity, together with the director Felipe Montes and Paula Silva, director of the CCI and AICE partner.
We spoke with Milton Vicentelo, who is also director of International Operations at René Lagos Engineers, to define the scope of this agreement to disseminate industrialized construction, and his role as vice-president of the instance.
From your role as director of a structural engineering company, what is the contribution you make as vice-president of the CCI?
For our company, it is very important to collaborate with different organizations and industry initiatives that have objectives and visions that we share in RLE. In that sense, being a member company of the CCI and also participating in its board of directors allows us to contribute to relevant topics that are discussed and studied at the CCI, such as, for example, early integration in industrialized construction.
Why is early integration important?
This allows for better communication in the key design decisions of the different specialties, at an early stage, with the most efficient, high quality and sustainable construction methods and solutions. This ultimately translates into better projects for all stakeholders.
On the other hand, my participation in the CCI since 2022 has allowed me to contribute in linking the CCI with important organizations such as the AICE, AOA and governmental entities to establish agreements for greater collaboration and integration, which are currently in full implementation. In that sense, I am currently motivating ITC's collaboration agreements with international organizations in which we participate in RLE as members, and which I believe will be of interest to our industry.
What is the advantage of the IAEC having this agreement with the ITC?
I think it is very relevant and virtuous. The CCI is a transversal entity in our industry, which brings together the main actors in the construction of the private and public area, in addition to a strong relationship with academia.
In 2022, as CCI we proposed to the board of the IAEC to establish a collaboration agreement to link the activities of both organizations for the mutual benefit of its members. As we already know, the reception was very positive, even several activities arose after the signing of the agreements.
In this way, this agreement will allow IAEC members to interact through the CCI directly with all the actors related to the industrialized construction industry in a collaborative way, knowing and sharing experiences that will finally result in opportunities for their activities and, at the same time, it will allow CCI members to have certainty regarding structural solutions, design ideas and constructability, which can be integrated to industrialized buildings in their different typologies having the support of an association as prestigious as the IAEC.
From the CCI we invite AICE members to join and participate in the different activities that have been programmed for this year.
